Getting a NIF and opening a bank account are the first steps to take in your Golden Visa process.

For obtaining a NIF we will only need you to provide us a copy of your passport identification pages, a proof of residence like a utility bill or a bank statement and a power of attorney with the exclusive purpose for us to take care of this process with the Portuguese tax authorities and become your tax representative.

Obtaining a NIF is handled by us through online contact with the tax authorities, and it should take a couple of days, eventually up to one week.

Opening a bank account in Portugal, if you are still not a resident in the country, can be challenging, but we are here to help you!

In order to open the account, you will need to provide some documents like your identification, your NIF, proof of address, proof of employment and income and fill several bank forms.

You can perform the account opening remotely and therefore there´s no need to come to Portugal.

Some banks perform the so-called digital account opening, with a videoconference with the account manager, a more expedite way because you will not need to send the original documents certified by a lawyer or notary. Other banks will have a more traditional approach, meaning that after verified and confirmed the information contained in the pdf documents, they will require the original certified documents to be sent to them.

All the KYC information will be validated by the bank´s compliance area and only after the account will be open.

According to our experience, the account opening process can take from one week to about one month.

We work with a wide range of banks, including the largest in the country and also some smaller banks. The latter will be eventually more appropriate if you don´t intend to come to live in Portugal in the near horizon because they are more agile and faster but have a narrower range of products and services and a smaller branch network which might not be too convenient if you are coming to live in the country.
